Preface
"Heaven touching the earth". This is the theme of our celebratory publication. Is this not a risky phrase for a mission that has a history of 50 years, when the first history of mission in the Bible is simply called "Acts"? Is the mission history of EBM/MASA not mostly about human beings and their deeds? Has not most of what has happened, been more than human?
In these 50 years we have of course seen strong and weak people, we have seen their convictions and their work, their success and their failure. But from behind this something else comes to light: We discover God's calling, faith in God, steps of faiths, guidance, love and faithfulness as well as the willingness to suffer that are rooted in heaven. Countless Africans and Latin Americans have experienced God's search for them, how He found them through the gospel and gave them eternal life. Others have experienced social help in the name of Jesus Christ, which shines like a sign of God over their lives. In all this Jesus has - so to speak - 'touched the earth'. As Paul wrote to the Ephesians: "Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us in the heavenly realms with every spiritual blessing in Christ" (Eph.1:3). This also characterizes the history of EBM/MASA. Praise be to God!
